How It Began...
My mom found this picture of me and grandma and she gave it to me.
The name of my bakery business stems from this moment captured in the picture. I was a junior in High School. I got a horrendous case of mono that spring, and missed 6 weeks of school. In my Foods class, we were doing a "breads" unit. I missed the whole thing....well, not really. My teacher gave me all the materials for the unit and I took them to Grandma's house. Grandma was my tutor. A REALLY GOOD ONE.
We made all things bread that weekend! Buns, rolls, all of it! I was a yeast beast when we were done.
We spent many other days together in the kitchen, her teaching me the art of kringla, krumkake, rosettes, rice pudding...and all the other Norwegian wonderfulness that was her heritage.
Grandma went to be with Jesus in November of 2012. When I was deciding on a name for the bakery business, it was important to me that it give honor to Grandma. I pondered a lot of fun, cute names, but settled on Heritage Baked Goods. Grandma ignited a passion for baking in me. I hope it makes her smile that her recipes live on, and that so many are enjoying her kringla, lefse, and other Norwegian heritage recipes, as well as other family favorites.
